The Siuslaw Vikings boys soccer team kicks off its third season at the varsity level with a home match Thursday, Aug. 25, against Sweet Home.

Siuslaw also is planning to add a girls team this fall as it enters competition at the Class 3A level of the Oregon School Activities Association.

The Vikings boys have a 14-match schedule that includes two with 4A schools, nine with 3A, two with 2A and one with 1A.

The 1A match is the 3A/2A/1A Special District 3 opener Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Crosshill Christian in Turner.

Siuslaw has nine league matches in the 14-school special district, including five with fellow travelers in the revised 3A Mountain Valley Conference — Sisters, La Pine, Creswell, Pleasant Hill and Elmira.

Harrisburg is the only MVC member that does not field a soccer team, boys or girls.

The Vikings will play volleyball, boys and girls basketball, baseball and softball in the MVC. The football team plays in a special district that mirrors the MVC.

Siuslaw ends its boys soccer regular season with a league home match Wednesday, Oct. 19, against East Linn Christian Academy of Lebanon.

The Vikings are 3-20 in two seasons of varsity play, going 2-7 in spring 2021 and 1-13 in fall 2021. Siuslaw was 2-17 in the 4A Sky-Em League.

Londi Tomaro returns as head coach, building a varsity program with many of the same players she served as head official for the Siuslaw Youth Soccer Association, which begins spring play in two weeks.

She was assisted this past season by Amy Tregoning, Dan Langley and Nyra Campbell.

Pleasant Hill is the defending 3A/2A/1A Special District 3 champion, finishing 9-0 in league last fall and 16-1 overall, the Billies' lone loss in the state quarterfinals. …

There are 79 schools in seven districts in the boys 3A/2A/1A classification. District 7 has a high of 17 schools, District 6 a low of eight. …

District 3 members Crosshill Christian, East Linn Christian and Santiam Christian have Eagles as a mascot. … 

Only two district schools — Siuslaw and Sisters — have posted schedules for the fall. …
