Siuslaw Outreach Services press release

It is time again to "chip in for the cause" and join in on the fun at the 12th Annual Siuslaw Open to benefit Siuslaw Outreach Services.

The Siuslaw Open presented by Oregon Pacific Bank, Florence Dental Clinic, Peace Harbor Hospital, Abel Insurance and Florence Elks Lodge #1858, is one of the premier golfing events in Florence.

The tournament is Saturday, May 14, at Florence Golf Links. Florence Golf Links features wide-open Scottish style fairways along with breathtaking views of the dunes and ocean.

"General Manager Nik Remer and his staff have made the planning an enjoyable process the past couple of years and we are excited to be back at FGL." said SOS Executive Director Bob Teter.

The tournament committee and FGL staff are taking every reasonable precaution to protect golfers adapted to state covid mandates. Registration is now open for teams.

Teams can sign up at Siuslaw Outreach Services or at Florence Golf Links.

Individuals may sign up as well. Those who sign-up individually will be paired together to form a foursome.

The tournament will feature its signature putting contest with a chance to win $5,000. The fun and exciting Chipping Contest and Poker Run are back as well.

The tournament has returned to a shotgun start format. Johnston Motors has once again stepped up to sponsor a hole-in-one contest to win a new Ford truck.

Hyak has also returned to provide a bb1 lunch on hole #7.

New this year is The Best Dressed Team Contest.

The tournament is a four-person team format using the Calloway scoring method.

Team fees are $400 if registered before May 1. Fees include green fees, carts, 3 putts in the putting contest, drinks, coffee, donuts, snacks, and lunch. All players must be registered no later than May 7.

Registration forms can be picked up and dropped off at Siuslaw Outreach Services on 12th Street or at Florence Golf Links. For more information, contact Bob at 541-997-2816 or Nik at 541-997-1940.

The Siuslaw Open has been raising funds to help needy individuals and families for the past 10 years. Siuslaw Outreach Services provides advocacy for victims of domestic and/or sexual violence, homelessness prevention and intervention, emergency vouchers for clothing, food, showers, laundry, transportation, prescriptions, rent and utilities as well as self-sufficiency education programs.

The stress and challenges of the COVID-19 Pandemic created hardships for local individuals and families like never before.

This past year, SOS saw a 100 percent increase in domestic and sexual violence from the previous year.

SOS also provided over $800,000 in direct aid toward rent and utilities to individuals and families affected by the pandemic.

In 2021, SOS provided aid to 2,375 individuals in our community.

Tournament chair and SOS board president, Justin Young said, "The success of this tournament is vital to helping SOS provide critical services to our neighbors who are in crisis."
