Vikings rumble royally at 10-school meet


Rhododendron Prince James Smith had a big day Saturday, including a PR 119-3 to place second in the discus.

The AMJ Invitational track and field meet Saturday in Vida turned into something of a royal rumble for the Siuslaw Vikings boys.

Rhododendron Senior Court members Camp Lacouture, Chad Lacouture and James Smith all had big days, as did Mapleton senior Joe Sheppard.

The Vikings boys dominated the 10-school event to finish first along with the Siuslaw girls.

Prince Camp won the pole vault at 13-6, the 300 hurdles in 47.01a, was second in the high jump at 5-6 and third in the long jump at 18-.25.

Prince Chad won the 800 in a personal-record  2:09.20a and placed second in the 1,500 in 4:17.92a.

Prince James was second in the discus with a PR 119-3, third in the 400 in 56.08a and third in the triple jump at 35-9.5. He also ran a leg of Siuslaw's first-place 4x100 relay team.

Prince Joe won the triple jump at 37-6.75 and was fourth in the long jump with a PR 18-1.75.

Siuslaw junior Hunter Petterson won the 200 in a PR 22.9 and the 400 in a PR 53.21a. Freshman Wesley Nicholls was second in the 400 at 55.8a.

Junior Samuel Ulrich won both the 1,500 and 3,000, the 3,000 in a PR 9:02.31. Sophomore Brayden Lindon was second in the 3,000 a PR 9:31.2.

Junior Lucian Murphy won the 110 hurdles in a PR 19.44a.

Siuslaw won both the 4x100 relay and the 4x400 relay.

In the field events, junior Jonathan Rose won the shot put at 39-4.75, with sophomore Cort Waggoner second with a PR 39.0.25. Rose won the discus at 124-7.

The Siuslaw boys had 244 points for first, with Jefferson a second with 76.

The Lady Vikings won with 121, with Triangle Lake second with 115.

Top marks for the Siuslaw girls included:

  • Senior Rylee Colton, first in the 800 in 2:28.81a, with freshman Maya Wells second in a PR 2:38.15a.
  • Sophomore Corduroy Holbrook, first in the 1,500 in a PR 5:28.79 to lead a 1-2-3 sweep. Freshman Macy McNeill was second in a PR 5:34.33a and sophomore Jane Lacouture third in a PR 5:46.04a.
  • Senior Hayden Muller won the javelin with a PR 89-8 and placed second in the shot put with a PR 25-5.25.
  • Freshman Macali Ladę won the pole vault with a PR 7-0.
  • Sophomore Madison Carnahan was second in the discus at 72-0.
