The Siuslaw Vikings football team is abandoning Bandon in favor of the Kennedy Trojans to fill out the 2022 schedule.

The Vikings will host the Mt. Angel school at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, athletic director Chris Johnson confirmed Tuesday.

Siuslaw tentatively had been scheduled to play a nine-man game that night at Bandon.

Five of the nine scheduled games now will be at home — Newport Sept. 2, Kennedy Sept. 9, Harrisburg Sept. 23, Elmira Oct. 7 and Sisters Oct. 21.

The four road games are La Pine Sept. 16, Creswell Sept. 30, North Marion (Aurora) Oct. 14 and Pleasant Hill Oct. 28.

Kennedy is a member of the 2A Tri-River Conference (Special District 2 for football).

The Trojans were 11-2 last season, including a 38-28 loss to Coquille in the 2A state final, on the same day and same field that the Vikings clinched the 3A title.

Siuslaw will play in the seven-school 3A Mountain Valley Conference this coming fall with Creswell, Elmira, Harrisburg, La Pine, Pleasant Hill and Sisters.

First practice is Monday, Aug. 14.
