Test run of KofC Soccer Challenge May 14
The national Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge is coming to Florence.
At least a test-case version of it is.
The free event for youths age 9 to 14 will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Miller Park.
Registration is day of the event.
The Soccer Challenge is an annual event held in the fall with winners advancing from local to district to state competitions.
State scores are used to determine international champions.
Each contestant is scored on 15 kicks at a regulation goal from the penalty line, 12 yards from the goal.
There are a total of 12 categories, six each for boys and girls.
Ages 9, 10 and 11 use a size No. 4 ball, ages 12, 13 and 14 a size No. 5 ball.
