Kaden Starr and Conner Chase combined for a three-hit shutout Friday to fire the Marist Spartans to a 9-0 victory over the Siuslaw Vikings in the first game of a Sky-Em League baseball doubleheader at Dodson Field.

The second game was suspended because of rain and field conditions, with Marist leading 3-0 through three innings.

The game will be continued at a later date, Vikings coach Tom Shinn said.

Siuslaw (6-11 overall, 10-6 in league) already has four games scheduled for next week, Tuesday at Junction City, Wednesday in a makeup game at home against Cottage Grove and a doubleheader Friday at Cottage Grove.

Marist improved to 11-5 overall and 7-0 in league.

Starr, a junior, had nine strikeouts over his five innings, allowing one hit and walking two.

Beau Erickson, Ian Sissel and Ethan Halpin each collected a single for the Vikings, who were shut out for the first time in 17 games this season.

Siuslaw has three scheduled home games the week following next to complete regular-season play, a single game May 10 vs. Elmira-Triangle Lake and a doubleheader May 13 vs. Marshfield.
