Vikings fall to Spartans in five innings, 12-1

The Marist Spartans plated nine runs in the top of the fifth inning Monday to complete a 12-1, five-inning Sky-Em League baseball victory over the Siuslaw Vikings at Jiggs Dodson Stadium.

Siuslaw, 8-13 overall and 3-8 in league, hosts Elmira-Triangle Lake at 5 p.m. today, the second of five games the Vikings have lined up this week.

Siuslaw has a makeup game Wednesday at Cottage Grove, then caps the regular season with a doubleheader at home at 3 p.m. Friday against Marshfield.

Monday's contest was the completion of a game suspended in the top of the fourth inning April 29 with the Spartans leading 3-1.

Neither team scored in the fourth, but the floodgates opened in the fifth for Marist, ranked No. 6 in the OSAAtoday 4A coaches poll.

The Spartans collected three walks and six hits in the fifth, including five doubles, including two by clean-up hitting Kaden Starr, a junior third baseman.

Vikings junior Ian Sissel was 1-for-3 with an RBI, senior Isaac Garza 1-for-2 and senior Beau Erickson scored the team's lone run.
