The Elmira Falcons rallied for five runs in the top of the sixth inning Tuesday to defeat the Siuslaw Vikings, 6-4, in Sky-Em League baseball at Jiggs Dodson Field.
"It was a tough loss," Siuslaw coach Tom Shinn said. "We jumped out early with some good baserunning.
"I was pleased with the focus and fight shown by the team."
Siuslaw, 8-14 overall and 3-9 in league, plays a makeup game at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Cottage Grove, then closes regular-season play with a doubleheader at home at 3 p.m. Friday against Marshfield.
All nine Vikings went to the plate in a three-run first inning and Siuslaw nursed a 4-1 lead heading into the top of the sixth.
The Falcons then sent eight batters to the plate, collecting five hits and scoring five runs to build a 6-4 lead.
A double play erased a possible rally in the bottom of the sixth and the Vikings went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh.
Siuslaw senior catcher Jason Garcia was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Beau Erickson, Ian Sissel, Henry Rankin and Noah Dotson also had singles.
"In some instances we hit balls well," Shinn said, "but right at people."
