The Siuslaw Vikings girls golf team lopped 62 strokes from their Monday total to place seventh out of 14 teams Tuesday in the 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 3 championships at Bandon Crossing.

Junior Itziar Carro was the Lady Vikings' top scorer with a two-day 134-112—246 for 24th place among 65 golfers.

"That type of improvement is awesome," Siuslaw coach Chuck Johnson said of Tuesday's score, "and moved us into the top half of the tournament."

The first-year coach was pleased with the district results in both the girls and boys tournaments. Siuslaw freshman Ryan Klampe was medalist in the boys tournament last week.

"Our girls also represented our school and community with class and dignity," Johnson said. "The entire Florence community should be proud of our girls as well as our boys."

Other Siuslaw scores: Hayden Muller 126-124—250, Rhianna Lane 147-128—275, Zoe Alberty 162-146—308, Gabbi Jarman 159 Monday, Darcy E. 140 Tuesday.

St. Mary's (Medford), Marist and Marshfield qualified for the state tournament. Marist senior Sandhya Vaikuntam was medalist with a 77-75—152.
