Siuslaw boys finish second in district finals


Siuslaw Vikings juniors Hunter Petterson, Samuel Ulrich and Jonathan Rose won individual titles Saturday to lead the Siuslaw Vikings boys to second place in the Sky-Em League district track and field championships at Junction City.

Cottage Grove won the boys' team title by just two points over Siuslaw, 146-144. Marshfield had 123, Junction City 114, Elmira 79 and Marist 51.

Marist won the girls title with 175 points. Junction City had 123, Marshfield 121, Cottage Grove 116, Elmira 61 and Siuslaw 41.

Petterson won the boys 200 meters in 23.30a seconds, Ulrich the 800 in a personal-record 1:58.68a and Rose the discus at 138 feet even.

Senior Chad Hughes qualified for state in the 1,500 with a second-place 4:16.44a.

The state championships are this coming Friday and Saturday, May 20-21, at Hayward Field in Eugene.
