Vikings qualify 9 boys, 4 girls for state meet


The Siuslaw Vikings will be sending nine boys and four girls to the OSAA Class 4A state track and field championships this coming week at Hayward Field in Eugene.

The boys qualifiers include:

  • Junior Hunter Petterson in 200, 400 and 4x400 relay
  • Junior Samuel Ulrich in 800, 3000 and 4x400 relay
  • Senior Chad Hughes in 1500 and 3000
  • Junior Noel Hernandez in 300 hurdles
  • Junior Jonathan Rose in shot put and discus
  • Senior Camp Lacouture in pole vault
  • Junior Kyle Hughes in pole vault
  • Freshman Wesley Nicholls in 4x400 relay
  • Junior Jacob Blankenship in 4x400 relay

The girls qualifiers include:

  • Senior Rylee Colton in 1500, 3000, 4x400 relay
  • Freshman Maya Wells in 4x400 relay
  • Freshman Macali LadÄ™ in 4x400 relay
  • Sophomore Corduroy Holbrook in 4x400 relay

Petterson (200), Ulrich (800), Rose (shot put and discus) and Colton (3000) are advancing as Sky-Em League district champions.

Petterson (100), Ulrich (800, 1500), Chad Hughes (1500, 3000), Kyle Hughes (3000, pole vault), Lacouture (300 hurdles, pole vault), Colton (800, 3000, 4x400 relay) and Holbrook (4x400 relay) competed last spring when the state meet was held in Florence.

The Vikings boys placed second Saturday in the team standings, nosed out by two points by Cottage Grove.

The Lady Vikings were sixth place.

Competition in 4A is Friday and Saturday, May 20-21.
