Vikings' Ryan Klampe shares seventh place


Siuslaw freshman Ryan Klampe fired a 7-over-par 79 Monday to tie for seventh place after the first round of the OSAA Class 4A boys state golf championship at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks.

Klampe, who qualified as district champion, shot 37-42 for 18 holes, 1-over on the opening nine and 6-over on the back nine. He had 11 pars, a birdie, four bogeys and double bogeys on No. 17 and 18.

Senior Ryoma Lane of Valley Catholic, junior Elliot Lee of Tillamook and junior Ty Beyer of Woodburn shared first place at 1-over 73.

Banks senior Aaron Brown shot a 75, freshman Isaiah Jones of Baker/Powder Valley 76 and Seaside senior Carson Kawasoe 77.

Valley Catholic leads in the team standings at 329. Baker/Powder and Banks shared second at 335. Marist is at 343, Cascade 345, Marshfield 347, Tillamook 354, La Grande 379, Henley 388 and North Valley 408.

The 36-hole championship, with 10 teams and 58 golfers, ends Tuesday at the par 72, 6,359-yard Quail Valley Golf Course.
