Amy Tregoning is the new coach of the new Siuslaw Vikings girls soccer team, athletic director Chris Johnson confirmed Tuesday.

Tregoning is a science teacher at Siuslaw Middle School and long active with the Siuslaw Youth Soccer Association.

She was an assistant coach last fall with the Vikings boys team, which had girls on the roster.

Siuslaw is moving this fall to 3A/2A/1A Special District 3 for girls soccer, with league matches against Central Linn, Santiam Christian, Creswell, Pleasant Hill, Sisters, Elmira and La Pine.

The first-ever varsity match is a pending nonleague endowment game Aug. 25 at Sweet Home.

First practice is 90 days away and counting, Monday, Aug. 15.
