The Siuslaw sidelines could be crowded this season with Vikings cheerleaders.

Some 21 student-athletes are on the roster as the fall season looms, featuring seven freshmen, five sophomores, three juniors and six seniors.

Team captains are senior Gillian Norton, junior Ally Contreras and sophomores Ashlyn Hart and Claire Lindell.

The team is coached by Teri Straley, assisted by Desteny Johnson and Lori Straley.

The Oregon School Activities Association all-classifications state championships are Feb. 11 at Oregon City High School.

The Oregon Cheerleading Coaches Association Cheer Championships are Feb. 18 at the Salem Pavilion.

Among the Siuslaw teams to cheer this fall are state champions in cross country (4A boys and girls) and football (3A), as well as a state quarterfinalist in volleyball. There also is a first-ever girls soccer team and a boys soccer program on the rise.
